Industry Updates
This month featured more large scale companies announcing support for gaussian splatting than any prior.
Zillow is bringing gaussian splatting support to select Showcase listings, as SkyTour. It runs on both desktop and mobile.
Leading geospatial company, Esri, also announced they will support gaussian splatting within ArcGIS. They have the capability of large scale reconstructions on city scale and larger! DJI added gaussian splatting support to Terra, its geospatial software. Their implementation can process up to 30,000 images per training run.
krpano added gaussian splatting support to their viewer and it’s a great tool! It’s easy to use with powerful features. If you’re looking for a way to create narratives with gaussian splatting, it’s a great choice. Arrival Space released version .81, adding spatial sounds, in addition to revamping the content layers, making it much easier to navigate the backend.
Gracia added a native viewer for Mac. GSOPs added support for both Karma and Solaris rendering within Houdini.
NVIDIA released Instant NGP 2.0. Rendering rates are radically increased, all the way up to and past one hundred fps for some captures for me. Additionally training times are also 1.5X faster. This is a big deal!
Nerfstudio released gsplat 1.5.3, bringing all major APIs, including 3DGS, 2DGS, and 3DGUT, have been updated to handle multiple batch dimensions. They also released Viser 1.0!
Postshot has added a ton of new features this month, including April Tag support. Postshot can be accessed here.
AWS began offering a cloud based solution for various radiance field representations, including gsplat, 3DGRUT, and more! Play Canvas has launched Splat Transform, serving as an easy command line conversion tool for 3DGS. VRChat added gaussian splatting support thanks to developer Mykhail Moroz.
I sat down with Visual Features editor at The New Yorker, Sam Wolson, to profile how he’s been using gaussian splatting in journalism.
Videos and Content:
Did you know that Google Maps has supported radiance fields for the past two years? They’re not using what you’re probably expecting.
Jonathan Stephens came out with a couple videos this month. Here’s my favorite!
Olli Huttunen released his Blender plugin for easier 360 video clean up.
Mike Caronna and Brenden Singh released a splat music video in 360 for Nick Diver!
