Superman, SIGGRAPH, and Splats: This Month in Radiance Fields
It's a bird. It's a plane. It's gaussian splatting. | XGRIDS Announces PortalCam | Postshot 1.0 Launched | 3D Printed Radiance Fields
Hi Everyone!
Contained in this month’s update:
Exciting updates to platforms and general industry news.
What companies are hiring for Radiance Fields, right now!
Let’s get into it!
Industry Updates
If you saw the recently released Superman and didn’t notice the dynamic gaussian splatting, that was kind of the point. I spoke to Framestore about how every shot of the Kryptonian’s parents were done with gaussian splatting. CGNomads release version 2.7 of GSOPs for Houdini, which was used in the Superman project.
Postshot has ended their beta and released their 1.0. The software introduces paid tiers. While many people are upset about the paid tiers, keep in mind that he has made the software free for nearly two years and there is still a free option to use Postshot.
PlayCanvas released version two of compression method SOGs and file sizes continue to become shrink, with spherical harmonic support. They are also marching towards a bunch of big improvements to gaussian splatting’s architecture on the web.
Sam Wolson at The New Yorker released a new story, with a much larger gaussian splatting presence.
XGRIDS launched their PortalCam, with increased capture fidelity and retailing for $5K. If you’re looking at buying one and want 5% off, consider using code RADIANCEFIELDS.
Gaussian Splatting got a decimator tool, built on Nerfstudio’s gsplat. I also profiled the deicmator author Felix Hirt on his work with a portable camera rig.
Guest author Drew Moffitt contributed an article about how his company, Garver, is using radiance fields to success in AEC.
Gaussian Splatting viewer, Reflct launched out of beta! NVIDIA updated their vkSplatting playground to now support 3DGRT. NVIDIA also released Kaolin V0.18.0, bringing physics based collisions for Gaussian Splatting.
Janusch, AKA Mr.NeRF’s, inaugural bounty was completed, bringing a roughly two and a half training time speed uphttps://radiancefields.com/mr-nerf-3dgs-bounty-winner-announced to his open source CUDA 3DGS repo.
If you have a Vision Pro, I highly recommend checking out the Spatial Fields app. They just released version .5 of their beta and carry SH support on device.
SIGGRAPH 2025
SIGGRAPH occured in Vancouver this month and featured several important gaussian splatting updates.
A trio of NVIDIA executives gave the keynote address and announced the NuRec library for gaussian splatting support aimed at Phyiscal AI applications in Omniverse and Isaac Sim.
If you’ve ever wanted to 3D print one of your captures, Cysta.ai is making it happen. They can 3D print .plys or .ingp’s with honestly great fidelity. They were recognized with a Best in Show Award. At Real Time Live at SIGGRAPH, Infinite Studio (4DV) also won first place for their demo of dynamic gaussian splatting.
Chaos Arena added support for gaussian splatting!
Research
The pace of papers slowed a bit this month, but should pick up as conference season swings back in.
