Industry Updates
April featured more and more captures, with an expanding user base and some exciting platform updates. I visited Infinite Realities in the United Kingdom last year to show what is probably the state of the art on dynamic Gaussian Splatting.
We then open sourced over 300K images of me, in addition to 1,800 trained 3DGS plys for people to experiment with and a Unity VR demo! These are the first of several YouTube videos that will be released over the next month. Please consider subscribing to the Radiance Field YouTube channel!
The inaugural 3DISE conference happened in Prague and there was so much excitement around Radiance Field representations, like Gaussian Splatting! The talks were recorded, but no word yet when they will be released.
One of the original authors of NeRF, Jon Barron, gave a keynote running through the progression of Radiance Fields at 3DV.
NVIDIA quietly released vulkan_gaussian_splatting for easy prototyping. Speaking of NVIDIA, I published an interview with VP of Simulation and Omniverse, Rev Lebaredian.
Varjo released V2.0 of Teleport and is now offering honestly close to desktop training fidelity. Reflct open sourced a Python version of their Sharp Frames selector, expanding the options for people on Mac, AMD, and Intel for fast image selection!
Arrival.Space has put out a bunch of updates to their platform. Ecommerce 3DGS app, Doly has added a Shopify plugin.
Unreal Engine was a hot topic last month with a plugin update from Volinga. Japan based Preferred Networks also announced a 3DGS UE 5 plugin that brings awesome features such as relighting, shadow casting and high speed rendering.
XGRIDS release LCC Studio 1.7, bringing HD enhancement and the ability to pair drone footage with captures! XGRIDS competitor 3DMakerPro added Gaussian Splatting support to their platform, Raystudio.
Former Luma employee Jakub Červený released Splatter.app, which has progressive loading and level of detail already implemented. During its beta period, he is allowing unlimited ply uploads, so take advantage of it while it lasts! People wanting to convert meshes into 3DGS should rejoice about the release of Mesh2Splat, offering lightning fast conversions.
